Hyena Rig for Maya is out

Everything the rig ships with. What you get on day one:

IK/FK on all four legs

Front and hind legs switch between IK and FK, with toe and ball pivots for clean ground contact.

Ribbon spine and neck

Smooth body articulation and natural head movement, plus a secondary root for control offsets.

Facial rig and eye look-at

Enough expression for snarls and stares, with an eye look-at system to direct the gaze.

Standard and albino fur

Same rig, same controls. Swap the look in seconds for variety across a reel.

The story behind the hyena

A hyena rig that moves like a quadruped should

The hyena is a brilliant animal to animate: heavy, front-loaded shoulders, that sloping back, an expressive face and a gait that is entirely its own. A rig that lets you push all of that personality is exactly what creature animators need more of.

Rigging a quadruped properly is hard. You need clean IK/FK on front and hind legs, pivot controls that do not fight you, a spine that can stretch and squash naturally, and a face that supports proper expression. This rig covers all of that, with smooth deformation and an animator-friendly control set.

It is intended for animation practice, creature mechanics study and portfolio work.
