Demon Gargoyle Rig for Maya is a free creature rig by Emilio Serrano: a hunched, winged stone demon built on mGear, with nCloth simulation on the wing membranes and the cloth, and a full AnimPicker laid out over custom background images. Paul Armstrong made the model from a concept by Shuohan Zhou. The rig featured in Agora's December 2021 AnimChallenge, themed around Lava.

Everything the rig ships with. What you get on day one:
The membranes simulate with nCloth, so the flutter and follow-through come from Maya while you animate the flight.
The cloth elements run on nCloth too, layering secondary motion over your primary performance.
A full AnimPicker for the creature's control range, set over custom background images.
The mGear guide and post-scripts come in the download alongside the rig.
Shuohan Zhou's concept gives the gargoyle its ancient menace: hunched, winged, built from stone and shadow. Paul Armstrong turned that design into a 3D model, and Emilio Serrano rigged it on mGear for dramatic, atmospheric creature performance.
The rig already has a community history. Agora chose it for the December 2021 AnimChallenge, themed around Lava, and it inspired animation right across the challenge.
The simulation is what sets it apart. Both the wing membranes and the cloth run on nCloth, so Maya handles the organic follow-through and you can put your attention on the primary performance, whether that is flight or creature acting.
The full creature rig for Autodesk Maya, built on mGear.
Dynamic simulation set up on the cloth and the wing membranes.
Covers the creature's full control range, with custom background images.
The build files behind the rig, in the same download.
Free to download and use in your own animation work.
