Buzz Lightyear Maya Rig is out

Everything the rig ships with. What you get on day one:

A hierarchy that stays out of the way

Body and face controls in a clean hierarchy, so you spend the session on the performance.

Heavy, armoured proportions

Buzz's bulk is captured properly for animation, which gives body mechanics real weight to work against.

Made for animation challenges

Built for study, practice and community projects rather than production.

Model by Dahan Jean

The rig sits on Dahan Jean's model of the space ranger.

The story behind Buzz

A Buzz Lightyear rig for performance study

Buzz Lightyear is a joy to animate, and Roly's Maya rig of him is the kind of community fan rig the animation world needs more of. It was built for study, practice and animation challenges.

What makes Buzz a good subject is the contrast. He is bulky and stiff in his armour, so the performance has to come through in his hands, his hips and especially his face. Roly's rig handles all of that, with the controls you need for clean acting beats, body mechanics and the bigger heroic poses Buzz lends himself to so naturally.
