Buying for a studio

If you’re buying for a studio you need more than an add to cart button. You need to know who we are, what your team is allowed to do with the work, and whether your finance department will get a proper invoice out of us. It is all on this page, and where the standard terms do not fit your production there is an address at the bottom that reaches us directly.

If you already know what you need, skip to the enquiry form. A person reads every one of those.

What one purchase buys you

We sell four different things and they each work a little differently, so we have set them out one at a time. Where a product page states its own terms, those terms take precedence over anything here.

Plugins and scripts

Tools like Animo, Squarebit Subdivs and the Erlich set install into Maya or Unreal and stay installed. A paid tool carries a licence key the artist activates from their own Animworks dashboard, and they can move it between machines themselves when someone changes workstation. Nothing phones home to a licence server you would need to open a firewall for.

The full range is in plugins and scripts.

Every paid product also ships with a short PDF explaining where the key lives and how to move it, so your pipeline lead does not become our support desk.

How it is licensed

LicenceOne seat covers one named person
MachinesActivate and deactivate from the dashboard
TermPerpetual, unless the product page states a term
UpdatesFor as long as the creator ships them
More seatsAsk us and we set it up with the creator

Rigs and motion capture

The paid rigs and motion capture libraries are cleared for commercial work: games, film, advertising and client jobs. Around sixty more rigs are free with no signup wall, where free means personal, educational and non commercial use unless the product page says otherwise, though a few grant more than that.

What you make with them is yours. Renders, baked animation, gameplay and builds all belong to you. The rig file itself stays with the person who built it, which is why it is never redistributed or handed on inside a deliverable in its editable form.

Courses

Our courses are taught by animators who still work in the industry, and they are sold per student because the enrolment is tied to a person’s account and follows their progress through it. That is the practical reason rather than a pricing decision.

If you want a group through one course, tell us the headcount rather than buying seats one at a time. We will set them up and invoice you once.

How it works

Sold perStudent, tied to their account
AccessNo expiry once enrolled
Refund14 days, if under a quarter completed
A whole teamTell us the headcount and we will arrange it

Mentorship

One to one sessions with mentors who are working animators, booked straight onto their own calendar. Every session is recorded and lands in the student’s dashboard afterwards, which is the part that matters for a studio: your artist can go back to the notes while they fix the shot, and so can the next person who takes on that job.

For a team we will usually arrange a block of sessions across several artists rather than sending everyone off to book separately.

How it works

FormatOne to one, in the browser, nothing to install
RecordingEvery session, kept in the dashboard
BookingDirect onto the mentor’s own calendar
For a teamBlocks across several artists, by arrangement

Animworks Keyframe

Keyframe is our own animation review software. Notes pinned to an exact frame, drawing over the shot, two versions side by side, and unlimited reviewers on every share link, so the people approving the work never need an account of their own. It is in closed beta and free for as long as it stays there.

Read what Keyframe does, or ask us and we will bring your whole team into the beta together rather than one request at a time.

Invoices, VAT and the paperwork your team will ask for

Put your company name in the billing details at checkout and a VAT invoice is attached to your order email and kept in your account. It carries both companies’ details, the net figure per line, the VAT and our VAT number, which is what an accounts department needs in order to file it.

We are registered for UK VAT as GB 430 9383 96. If you are a VAT registered business in the European Union, enter your VAT number at checkout: we validate it against VIES and apply the reverse charge, so no VAT is added.

Send your supplier onboarding form, vendor questionnaire or data processing agreement to partnerships@anim.works and we will complete it and send it back. We would rather fill in your paperwork than ask you to make an exception for us.

Prices are shown in pounds sterling. The currency switcher in the header converts for reference only, and checkout is always in GBP.

The documents

When the standard terms do not fit

There is no self serve way to buy in bulk here yet, so this is a real email to a real person rather than a form that disappears into a queue. Where the product belongs to one of our creators we arrange the terms with them, because it is their work and their price to set.

  • More seats than a product sells on its page
  • One licence across a whole team, or across several creators’ tools at once
  • A group through one course, invoiced once
  • A block of mentorship spread across several artists
  • A broadcast or campaign licence
  • The editable file inside a deliverable to a client
  • A purchase order, a supplier form or a security questionnaire to complete

Tell us what you need and we will come back with something workable, or say plainly that we cannot do it.

Who you would be buying from

61independent creators sell through us
135products in the catalogue
10courses taught by working animators
7mentors taking one to one sessions

Creators keep 90 percent of every marketplace sale. That is why the catalogue stays maintained: the people who made these tools are still the people looking after them.

Who you are dealing with

Animworks was founded by Harvey Newman, an animation director with over twenty years in games, and he still answers the studio email himself. He is not the only person here. The catalogue is built by independent creators, the teaching is done by working animators, and approvals, licensing and support are handled between us.

When you buy a tool here you are paying the person who built it, and when something needs changing, the person who can change it is the one we go to. That is why we can arrange terms a reseller could not.

Where to look

Tell us what you need

The more of this you fill in, the closer our first reply gets to a straight answer. Headcount and country matter most, because between them they decide the seats and the tax treatment.

It reaches partnerships@anim.works, which we read every working day. You should have an answer within one.

We use what you send here to answer you and nothing else. It does not go on any mailing list.
