PRODUCT DETAILS
Cool Lines is a line drawing tool for Maya by Victor Schenck. It lets you paint stylised lines directly on a mesh using Maya’s Paint Effects brushes, or generate them automatically from mesh edges, and it keeps everything in a dockable panel that updates as the scene changes.
Lines stay editable after they are drawn. Scale, resolution and taper are controlled from the panel, a preview shader can be applied to every line at once, and the full set can be baked into a single group when it is time to export.
What it does
- Paints lines directly on target meshes using Paint Effects
- Generates lines automatically from mesh edges
- Applies a default preview shader to all lines at once
- Controls line scale, resolution and taper from the panel
- Docks in the Maya UI and follows scene changes live
- Bakes all lines into a single group for export
Installation and compatibility
To install, drag installer.py into the Maya viewport and restart Maya. Cool Lines works with Maya 2023 and 2024 (PySide2) and Maya 2025 and newer (PySide6), and needs Python 3.8 or newer. The current version is 1.0.5, an early release that is still in active development. Built by Victor Schenck, with contributions from Clement Daures.
